Funders Require Active Registration
The days of writing and submitting grant proposals by mail or email are over.
Most funders now require applicants to register for their electronic grant submission portals. To qualify to submit a grant, the funder’s specific registration process must be approved and active. Before you decide to write a grant, read the submission registration requirements in the RFP. It is possible to be eligible to apply for a grant but not registered to submit the grant. An attempt to submit would result in a denial from the funder.
Grant registration systems, like grants.gov and SAM.gov can take weeks to apply and receive active approval for submission.
Why is this important? Because grants are time sensitive to deadlines. A grant opportunity is only available to applicants for a limited amount of time. This can be months or a few weeks. This means you can easily miss grant deadlines if you are not continually registered and active. Imagine finding the perfect grant opportunity but not being eligible to apply because you aren’t registered.

Grant registrations are time consuming and can easily fall through the cracks. With various emails coming in from these systems and multi-level verifications required, it’s easy to make mistakes.
